Determining Your Budget During a Remodel
People need to set a budget for any remodel they want to complete.
First do your homework before getting too far into the project. Since materials and labor fluctuate with the market, make sure you investigate what the going rate is. Ask your contractor what their fee is and get a bid before you commit. Sometimes you will need to sacrifice a little for cost. Johnsons renovation will make recommendations that will not only look great but wont break the bank.
3 Steps to Take While Preparing for a Remodel
1. Do your homework. Depending on what type of remodel you are looking for you will need to find a professional who specializes in that type of work. Get recommendations from family and friends or look at reviews online.
2. Know your costs. There may be certain costs associated with more customized work. Get a few ideas from others who have had the same type of work done. A good General Contractor will give you a free estimate and go over the final bid with you.
3. Be Prepared. Have a list of questions for your contractor. No question is too small. Be upfront about your expectations. Depending on the work being done you may need to put things away during the remodel. Pictures and wall hangings would need to be set aside if your contractor will be doing a lot of hammering. Set aside any objects that may be in the way of the work area. Also a clean environment will help speed the job along for the contractor. An example would be having a clean floor and toilet if you have flooring being installed in a bathroom. Having a plan and being prepared will not only speed the remodel process along but will also help give you peace of mind.
